Communal Garden

Formed in 2005 to address the closure of the only grocery store in north Kingston, Community Harvest Kingston’s (CHK) goals are to increase access to local, healthy food; provide education on the benefits of eating a healthy diet and to build community.

To achieve these goals, CHK’s initiatives include The Community Harvest Market, a weekly affordable farmers market, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2019; the Community Harvest Garden, a 4500sqft. organic produce garden located in north Kingston; the Community Harvest Market voucher program, a mechanism to ensure fairness for both its market producers and to market visitors, many of whom cannot afford farmers market prices; the market’s on site children’s and senior’s gardens, raised garden beds designed to promote healthy eating while learning about gardening and healthy life-styles in an inclusive, information sharing manner; and monthly Special Events, which include live music, cooking demonstrations, free healthy food snacks, face-painting, children’s activities and community information.
